Published on 4 September 2025 at 00:09

To attune is to bring into harmony, to make aware or responsive, or to adjust sensitively to something. It’s about aligning with a rhythm, a mood, or a need, whether musical, emotional, or communal.

Definitions:

  • To make receptive or aware
  • To accustom or acclimatise
  • To bring into harmony or tune

Examples:

  • She’s deeply attuned to the emotional atmosphere of the room.
  • The Centre’s rhythm attunes itself to weekly cycles of reflection and renewal.
  • Artists must attune to both silence and sound to transmit truth.

Origin:

Late 16th century, from at + tune , a reminder that attunement is both action and listening.
